Celebrity Pets – And Their Owners.

Celebrities! They look great and we love them all – and sometimes their owners as well. Celebrity pets are sometimes as famous as their owners, and many would not be seen without them. The owners sometimes feel the same way about their pets.

Most people envy a celebrity’s life, but it can be very lonely at times. They are frequently away from home, and often have few real friends they can rely on, or call upon when they need a bit of comforting or lack security. This happens more often with celebrities than most people believe.

A pet is frequently the only real friend they have when on tour, or on filming on location, and pets give their love and companionship completely unequivocally. Take Bizkit, the pet bulldog of Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst. He travels with Fred wherever he goes, and some even say that they look alike. Another bulldog owner is Howard Stern’s girlfriend, model Beth Ostrosky, whose bulldog is called Bianca.

In fact, it is often said that people look like their dogs, and those that say or write this go out of their way to prove it (hopefully not with Beth Ostrosky). They trawl through the archives for loose-jowled bloodhound owners, and feline cat owners. Does Sophie Ellis Bextor own a cat? I don’t know. However, nobody could ever accuse Hayden Panettiere of being a dog, not even the cute little puppy that she owns.

Some celebrities tend to go over the score with their pets, though, and Paris Hilton gets it in the neck again for the number of dogs she owns. She was reported to the department of Animal Services in L.A. because she owns 17 dogs, including a teacup Chihuahua called Tinkerbell. Quite frankly, there is nothing wrong with owning that many dogs as long as they are being looked after property, and Miss Hilton must be doing so because nothing has happened. She has, however, cut herself down to ten and explained the excess as being due to the fact that dogs have puppies.

One of the crazes that celebrity dogs have to put up with is the fad of carrying them around in small bags. It appears that the lead and collar has taken a back seat to the fashion bag the dog is carried around in. Paris Hilton features again here, along with Jessica Simpson, though I am sure it’s not Santa’s Little Helper they are talking about here!

Chihuahua

In fact Jessica’s Daisy is a tiny dog called a Maltipoo – a Maltese-poodle cross – that can be seen peeping out of its Louis Vuitton carrier bag. The name is doubtless take from her character’s name in the Dukes of Hazzard. I also read that Paula Abdul has a Chihuahua that she tripped over and broke her nose. A few American idol ‘never-weres’ will be clapping their hands at that!

However, joking aside, this trend of celebrities purchasing pets that have to ‘live in my Birkin bag’ is not good for the animals. Dogs need exercise, even small ones, and people like Jessica and Paula should make sure that they get it. Perhaps they do and are being done a disservice, but it is important that celebrities understand that their pets are real animals and not toys or fashion accessories. Celebrity pets must be looked after properly.

If these dogs don’t get exercise, then they won’t be small for long! In any case, being carried around in small fashion bags can cause dogs a lot of distress – so think twice girls! Bonsai dogs are not a clever idea, and Dale Van Pamelan who owns a New York dog spa is quoted as saying he is just waiting for one of these celebrities to stick a handle on their dog: a Louis Vuitton in one hand and the pooch in the other!

Most references to celebrities’ pets refer to dogs, and it is difficult to find anything else. Michael Jackson is different, but are these pets or zoo animals? There is a fine distinction. Many celebrities have cats of course, and both Cameron Diaz and her ex. Justin Timberlake have cats. The problem with felines is that they cannot be properly tamed (as most guys learn through time) and certainly don’t take kindly to being carried about in bags!

Others have more exotic pets, but tend not to publicize them as much as Clint Eastwood did, although Clyde was Philo Beddoes’s pet, not Clint Eastwood’s as many people believed. What you don’t want are the pets that belonged to a certain Mark Voegel, one of which killed him and the others of which ate him. The killer was a black widow spider and the diners a lizard and a whole bunch of termites.

So if you are thinking of celebrity pets, and perhaps trying to emulate them in their choice, keep clear of widows. They will be the death of you!
