Getting Celebrity Endorsements
Have you ever wondered how to get celebrities to back your business. All sorts of people and companies would love to have a celebrity clientèle to talk about. Everyone from politicians and restaurants to hotels and spas, the list of people who would love some of that celebrity magic to grace their shops or turn out to their promotions or opening events is infinite.
First you have to get the through to the celebrity gatekeeper. The star’s publicist or agent. It is this key person who will then make any proposals to the celebrity. So, you have found the celebrities publicist in the telephone book what next? You start in the same way a hotel chain gets new business from travel agents. You have to comp the agent or the publicist by giving them free samples of what you are selling so they can personally experience the service or product you are selling. Big cities do this when they want to attract a big sports competition. Yes they bring the sports competition planners into town, show them the sites and wine and dine and comp them. Remember such an experience must be all VIP, and first-class.
Let’s think about the logic so far! No top agent or publicist in their right mind is going to refer their celebrity star to an event or company they themselves have not personally experienced. You have to comp them with your best, and hope to impress them to the max. If you succeed the stars agent may well then send the celebrity your way. But it does not end there. To keep everybody happy you will also have to show the celebrity the same service or better and wine and dine them, giving them the VIP treatment too. Expensive business you might say. Yes but remember, the bragging rights of having a celebrity customer are more valuable than any other form of advertising. Your celebrity event will pay dividends for years. In the end you get a celebrity customer on your books, something that is well worth the all the free comps you gave away In a word Priceless!
