United Nations Says Get Tough on Celebrity Drug Offenders!

Soft Sentences handed out to Drug abusing Celebrities is sending the wrong message to kids says a United Nations expert.

The United Nations drug control official said it was “regrettable” that famous people got off with a slap on the wrist.

He was speaking after a wake of lenient punishments handed out by European and British courts to singers Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty.

Let-offs for drug addicts like Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse help to create a culture where drug abuse is not seen as a serious crime, claims a United Nations report.

But are Celebs really treated leniently? Doherty has had countless warnings over class A drugs like heroin but nothing has been done. Likewise for Amy Winehouse, again no action not even a warning.

Other countries are much tougher — just ask Raymond Bingham, who was caught with  2.16g of cannabis in Dubai last November. He was given the minimum sentence for possession – four years in jail.

Holland has one of the lowest Drug abuse problems in the world because they educate their children about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The Dutch are famous for their apparent leniency which is really targeted at tourism and is not how the Dutch people view the problem. The Dutch see drug abuse as a bad choice that only tourists get a kick out off. As for Dubai  Wow that is a harsh deterrent!
