How My First Audition Casting Call Went

At acting schools and audition casting calls, everyone tries to put on an image of supreme self-confidence, but the reality is far from that. More actors than you would imagine are naturally shy people. Inside, almost everyone is scared. Although I decided I wanted to be an actor when I was young, It to me a longtime to get up the courage to actually try out. That is, after all, why many of us do it to get over our own social anxieties and prove to ourselves, and the world that we can shine.

When I tried out for my very first audition casting call, I thought I would play it safe. I tried out for a part that I was pretty sure I would not get. Basically, I was too tall and a bit too chubby for the role. Nevertheless, I thought it would be a great way for me to test out my acting skills. They were looking for someone a little bit younger than me, and with different physical features. I had been taking actors workshops, reading plays, studying classic movies, and in general doing everything I could to prepare myself to be a great actor. So the time had come for me to put into practice all that I had learned. This audition casting call, I figured, would be sort of a cold run for the real one.

Although I knew that I wasn’t trying out for a role that I particularly wanted or had a chance of getting, I still felt terrified that the audition casting call would not go well. I put on a brave face. However when I got there, my nerves got the better of me. I was practically shaking in my shoes! Nonetheless, I managed to pull it together. Writers can be neurotic and brooding, and directors can be grouchy and demanding, but actors have to be able to put out a polished image of themselves no matter how they’re feeling inside.

To be honest, the audition casting call was sort of a blur for me. I really can’t remember what I did there, other than that I felt very nervous and was worried that I would bomb. Apparently I didn’t. I didn’t get the role, but I did interest the director. He kept my number and, a few months later, gave me a call. There was another actors casting call, and he had a part in mind that he thought I would fit perfectly. Although it wasn’t all that glamorous, it was still a great first role. I’m not sure at all if I will ever make it as a professional actor, but I’m glad to be finally making some progress in that direction.
