Taking the World to Know You
I have been a movie fanatic since I started to watch movies and that was when I was just a kid. I watched every movie that catches my attention. However, as I grew older, I realized that I only watch movies of those actors and actresses I have heard about or I know by name (though how I wished I knew them personally). It was the same thing when I listen to music, sometimes, I would just listen to the songs of artists whom I have heard of and for those I know nothing about, I skip them. So, in my case, I patronize an artist only when I know them, and I guess this is also the case for some people.
But there are dozens of artists in the world! How will any of them succeed? How will people remember their names? Aside from the fact that you would know them by the songs they make, the appearances they do and the movies they knock together along with the movie’s staff - you would recognize these entertainers when you have already of them or when people are talking about them. Honestly, I only heard about Jojo when I read this magazine and when my friends were arguing about her photo in a newspaper that looked pretty much like Lindsay Lohan. Remember saying that I thought it was Lindsay Lohan but then again she looked younger and appeared quite more innocent than Lindsay.
The experience I shared with you about me knowing Jojo is what you call publicity. Sometimes budding artists are photographed and their pictures published in newspapers and magazines.
Publicity is essential to any public figure, especially for celebrities, whether they are just starting out or they already have an established career. If people stopped talking about a certain celebrity, it could mean that the celebrity is no longer has a mass appeal and that person can get lower offers to do a movie or a gig.. Most celebrities have a publicist.
A publicist is the one making a noise for a public figure. This noise, sometimes a truthful press release or probably a gossip, would be passed on to the media and then soon, everybody would be talking about it. If you were like me who is always hearing different news about different public figures then you ought to wonder where do these news come from? Of course, since the publicist is the noise maker, every gossip about your favorite stars start from them. Lucky for them because they are always at the top of their game, if you know what I mean.
If you were a rising star, of course you should not only have a good talent agent, you also need to have one of the best publicists there are. Top publicists like Ken Sunshine who works for Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, Jay Z, Ricky Martin and a lot more should be one of your ideal publicists. Or perhaps, Pat Kingsley, the PR of world renowned actor Tom Cruise would be one of your best bets.
