How to be a Reality Show TV Celebrity
Omarosa, Omarosa Manigault Stallworth, how can you forget someone like her? She did create quite a stir in the reality show “The Apprentice”. How did she do it? We all may ask, and the answer is pretty simple, she was just being herself.
Yeah, everybody hated her, everybody on the show as well as the viewers. But now it’s different, isn’t it? She is one face that you will see at most red carpet events and all this because of her status of being a reality show celebrity (widely for a portrayal as being bitchy and difficult to work with).
It’s not just her, you’ve even got Sanjaya Malakar, the American Idol contestant that the judges weren’t all that fond of but even then, he had a huge fan following. I mean, c’mon, who can forget that “crying girl”, Ashley Ferl? All she did was cry during Sanjaya’s performance and lo and behold, the very next day she had TV reporters flooding her house for an interview, not to mention an interview on the radio.
So how does one become a reality show TV celebrity? Reality TV shows seem to be working in favor of the good guy as well as the bad guy. You’ve got shows like Fear Factor, The Bachelor, Survivor Island, and the granddaddies of them all, the American Idol as well as The Apprentice. It is all about the ratings and the higher the ratings go, the bigger celebrity status some contestants may have.
So if you want to be someone that the viewers adore or simply someone who the viewers love to hate, there are a few things that you can do to achieve this. If you have the intuition to spot that it is the boo hoo sequences that keep the viewers glued to the screen, and that if you appear to be the victim then you will get the votes, then congratulations: you’re already on your way to stardom.
And then of course you can play the comedian and play it safe, so that you don’t get voted out of the first few episodes itself. But that doesn’t mean that you have to act all goofy all the time: there will come a time during the show when you have to change, and this is the time when you will captivate the viewers with the sudden change. Reality TV shows are probably the best if (no offense here) you are a failing actor looking for something to boost your acting career - or any career for that matter. One thing that you have to refrain from doing is acting like the strong and silent guy. That is perfectly okay if you want to score with the ladies but if you want to get noticed on TV don’t be mach – be the weak guy, the, the oppressed and the victimized. That’s who they vote for.
Oh Lord, there are so many reality show TV celebrities that I can name who have made a complete fool of themselves on live TV but still have managed to get that celebrity status. The popular US reality show, American Idol, speaks for itself in this matter. Who can forget the fat lady in the yellow feathery dress and that guy who thought he was a panther who would do a “swish” kinda motion with his hand. Yes, that was truly weird, but nevertheless it simply adds to the popularity of the show which acts as a catalyst to give you the reality star celebrity status. There is a little trick of the trade that you can use in this respect and that is simply guessing what you, as a viewer, would like to see, which is nothing but plain and may be even a goofy kinda entertainment.
Sure, this is “so” not fair for those celebrities who have slogged their butt to get to the position where they are now, but this is the 21st century, folks. It’s time that you understand that the audience is looking for something different and if you play the cards right, that something different may as well be you.
If you want to know how it all exactly works in the reality TV business, I would recommend that you tune in to some show like Big Brother or The Apprentice and carefully watch the behavior patterns of the contestants. You can learn a lot this way and once you get the hang of it, rest assured that as soon as you star in a reality TV show, you will see bundles of cash rolling in.
